Virginia Wildrye (Elymus virginicus) is a cool-season perennial bunchgrass that is found along streams and riverbanks. It is ideal for soil stabilization due to its deep and strong roots. It can grow up to 5 feet and can tolerate shaded areas in wetter forests. This is an extremely popular species because it serves many important purposes in an ecosystem. Vertebrate animals use this grass as a food source and ducks will eat the seed if grown near wetlands.
